Citrus Popper
I love all things spicy. Give me a menu that mentions something spicy, Sriracha, Jalapeno or Cayenne, I will have a hard time turning it down! But I have found that most of these spicy drinks and the jalapeno infused liquors that are used are not enjoyable to drink; there is almost too much heat to them. So you could say, I was not a fan of spicy tequila. . .that is until I tried Xo Chitl ‘s house spicy margarita a few years ago. This margarita drink is actually not on their current menu, but if you are from Philly, trust me, go and ask for it! I have been trying to recreate my favorite margarita at home for awhile and I finally came up with a delicious alternative!
What You’ll Need:
- Lime Juice
- Orange Juice
- Sour Mix
- Limes
- Chili Lime Seasoning
- Tequila
- Cocktail Shaker
- Ice
- Rocks Glass
In a cocktail shaker, mix: 2-3 ounces lime juice, 1-2 ounces sour mix, 1 tablespoon OJ (just a splash), and silver tequila (I do 3 ounces but adjust for personal taste). For the lime juice, since it is a larger amount, I use the store bought lime juice. You can also use fresh squeezed limes and measure it out. You can also adjust the measurements for the lime juice and sour mix to taste; I do not like to use a lot of sour mix so I use a 3-1 ratio of lime and sour. Shake the cocktail vigorously to create a froth.
Rim the rocks glass with the lime, and dip the glass in the chili lime spice. I used Wegman’s Chili Lime Seasoning. Fill glass with ice and pour shaker contents. If you want a little extra kick like me, sprinkle chili lime seasoning on top of the froth. Garnish with a lime pinwheel.
