Tie Dye For
Tie dye reminds me of summer, sun and the ‘90s. The fun and bold colors can’t help but put a smile on my face! This is one trend I am not mad at; quarantine fashion is matching tie dye. Who knew all the tie dying I did in grade school would come in handy in 2020? Even though I would love a backyard tie dye party (beware all white colored clothes in my wardrobe !!), this set is not homemade. This blue, green and purple set is from Red Dress Boutique. Both the joggers and crop top are lightweight making it the perfect choice to relax in the summertime!
If you love all the colors of the rainbow, here are a few other tie dye for sets! There are both shorts and joggers at various price points.
There are many choices of tie dye lounge wear to choose from these days, but I think the homemade kind is still the best kind! Have a tie dye party and make your own creations. There are a few ways to create the at-home tie dye look: (1) Use colored dye and rubber bands. (2) Use bleach. I recommend using a ketchup squirt bottle with the bleach. You can do it freehand or tie up item with rubber bands. (3) Use food coloring.
For any of these methods, you will need white clothing/accessories, white vinegar, plastic gloves (highly recommended!), and a plastic bag. The plastic bag is to store the dyed shirt, while the colors set.
With food coloring or colored dye, soak the clothing/accessory in a bucket of vinegar and water for an hour before dying. It will help with the color absorption. The bleach I just put directly on a dry item; there is no need to soak. Make sure you cover the surface you are tie dying on! A garage floor or outside is the best option. If inside, lay out a plastic tarp/large trash bag on the surface you are utilizing. Let whatever form of dying you use sit up to 8 hours on the fabric (the bleach doesn’t have to sit for long) in a tied up plastic bag with the rubber bands still on. Then rinse out dye with cool water and air dry.
Limitations: If using food coloring due to the acidity, you must not use pieces that are plant based fabrics (cotton and linen), but polyester.
Hope these tie dye tips are helpful!
