Evergreen Candles
Anthropologie always has the cutest home decor, especially for the holiday season. They are royalty of all things bohemian and unique pieces! I love going to their STUNNING Rittenhouse Square location in Philly and browsing their new decorations each year. This year these evergreen bottle tree candles caught my eye. They were so simple, but fabulous at the same time! The candles were simple enough that I knew I could recreate them easily, especially when I saw the hefty price tag that came with Anthro’s version.
I went home and quickly looked up bottle brush trees. There were so many colors and sizes to choose from! I decided to stick with basic colors, so I could keep them on display past the holiday season. I ordered the classic Evergreen green, white and gold. I guess these trees were popular this season because my order kept getting delayed and didn’t arrive until after Christmas. Luckily, I ordered the neutral colors and they will stay on full display for the winter season.
I decided not to order new candles for the project and used ones I already had around the house. WoodWick candles are the greatest candles EVER, and the perfect match for the trees. WoodWick candles come in all sizes with literally wood wicks that smell and sound amazing. It is the closest thing to a fireplace I get in the city! Woodwick candles are sold on their website, Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond and Kohls, among other retailers. Any candle with a wood lid will work for this project. Homegoods has a variety to choose from for a low cost.
What You’ll Need.
- Candles with Wood Lids
- Course Kosher Salt
- White or Clear Sprinkles
- Hot Glue Gun
- Bottle Brush Trees
Start by taking the lid off of the candle and plugging in the hot glue gun. Make sure you lay down a trash bag if you are like me and make a complete mess with these kinds of things. Give the hot glue gun 5-10 minutes to heat up so it is super hot!
Once heated, cover the entire lid with glue. Start in the middle of the lid and finish by outlining the edges. It is okay if the glue in the middle dries; it will add texture to create “snow mounds”. Pour the kosher salt to cover the entire surface of the lid. Push the salt down on the edges with your finger tips. Keep adding hot glue and salt until the entire lid is covered. Add some sprinkles to the top layer to add some definition to your fake snow.
Other ways to make fake snow:
- Baking soda and shaving cream. Slowly add shaving cream to the baking soda until you reach the perfect snowy consistency.
- Baking soda and water.
- Baking soda and hair conditioner.
- Shaving cream and cornstarch.
- Cornstarch and body lotion.
Now, it is time to place your trees! I chose to alternate colors but you are the designer! Place them however you please. To glue trees down: cover bottom with hot glue, place on lid, and hold for 30 seconds in place. Repeat until all trees are glued.
And next, there is no next! That is all there is to making these beauties, Now it is time to light your candles and relax.
On the subject of lighting candles. . .have you ever heard of a rechargeable lighter!? Amazon has USB lighters that are rechargeable and super compact! I am obsessed with them and gave these as gifts for Christmas to many girlfriends this past year. I linked my two favorites below.
I think these Evergreen tress give my candles a little something extra, don;t ya think!? I hope you love this DIY home decor as much as I do.
